Gastrointestinal Microbiologist – Assistant or Associate Professor

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is seeking applicants for a 9-month, tenure-leading faculty position in the Department of Food Science and Technology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will develop and lead an internationally recognized research program, using genome-based approaches, focused on understanding the impact of the gut microbiota on health and disease. We expect the candidate will contribute to graduate and undergraduate microbiology courses and develop and teach a course in gastrointestinal microbiology. Collaborations with other scientists and faculty are expected.

The Department is located in the newly constructed Food Innovation Center. This facility houses resources for microbiology, genomics, and immunology research. The Clinical Innovation Suite provides opportunities for conducting human trials, and the Gnotobiotic Mouse Facility offers opportunities for innovative research employing conventional and germ free animal models. The incumbent will be joining a well-established interdisciplinary team of researchers focused on understanding the relationships among the gut ecosystem, host genetics, dietary interventions, and host health.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology or a closely related field and relevant postdoctoral experience. Must have demonstrated potential to conduct independent research.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to those demonstrating strong potential to conduct independent research and mentor graduate students and postdocs. To be considered for the Associate Professor level, applicants should have an established research program and a record of external funding.
